Putra Mosque, Putrajaya

The Putra Mosque is the principle mosque of Putrajaya, Malaysia. The pink-domed Putra Mosque is constructed with rose-tinted granite and can accommodate 15,000 worshippers at any one time. Three quarter of the beautiful dusky pink mosque floats on Putrajaya Lake, at a choice location that can be easily accessed by congregants and other visitors.

Facing the scenic Putrajaya Lake, the mosque is arguably its most distinctive landmark and one of the most modern mosques in the world. It is also a major tourist attraction here in Putrajaya with its astonishing glowing pink color.

My High Dynamic Range's technique is trying to sharpen the details of the architecture's perspective. Enjoy!

The architecture of the mosque is commendable. It reflects the evolution of mosque designs in Malaysia, with its Islamic-inspired architecture taking into account traditional design elements and craftsmanship, local materials and weather conditions.

The main entrance to the mosque is patterned after gates to public buildings in Muslim Persia.

The mosque is modelled after Persian Islamic architecture of the Safavid period with several elements derived from other Muslim cultures.

Those who wish to visit the interior of the mosque can do so freely. Women visitors are required to don pink robes as they enter. To enter the prayer hall, women visitors need to cover their heads with the scarves provided.

The building was constructed mainly with rose-tinted granite, which is offset by brown-stained cengal woodwork to enhance the decorative features on the doors, windows and panels.

Its impressive minarets is influenced by the design of the Sheikh Omar Mosque in Baghdad. At 116m, it is one of the tallest minarets in the region and has five tiers, representing the Five Pillars of Islam.

Towering majestically over a man-made lake, it has a large main dome of 38m diameter with eight smaller domes of 7.75m, plus a minaret.

Each dome topped with a gold tiled finial. The outer cladding is finished with tiles in shades of pink.

A unique feature has been added to the sound system design whereby front throw speakers are used to create the effect of all sound originating from the direction of the imam and is full of worshippers during the Friday prayers.

The mosque complex is also used to hold conferences, seminars and symposiums.

Easily the most recognizable attraction in Putrajaya, leaving this place without taking a photo of this famous pink mosque in Malaysia is really doing yourself an injustice.
