The Craft Sale for One District One Industry programme was held from 17 - 21 December 2009 at the Craft Cultural Complex Kuala Lumpur.Villages or areas that have been given the opportunity to participate in the programme came from the various district in Malaysia. They are ; Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak.

One District One Industry = 1Malaysia

One District One Industry also known as Satu Daerah Satu Industry
(SDSI) in Malay, was first introduced as Satu Kampung Satu Produk (One Village One Product). In 2002, the programme was expanded to become Satu Kampung Satu Industri (One Village One Industry) but one year later it was changed to Satu Daerah Satu Industry (One District One Industry) which encompasses a larger scope.

On the 8th of December 2004, the Cabinet had decided that the Implementation and Coordination Unit, Prime Minister's Department (ICU-JPM), shall act as the Secretariat and Coordinator for SDSI programme at all levels in order to strengthen the implementation machinery of SDSI. Deputy Prime Minister will from time to time chair all meetings with ministries and agencies involved in determining the policy and direction of the programme at the national level.

The objectives of the programme are to develop village/area into becoming craft production centres which produce products with local identity and carried out on a commercial basis by the local community, and to create employment opportunities for the local community by their participation in economic activities producing craft product to generate a steady income.

SDSI programme is aimed at developing the production of craft products with local identity on a commercial scale for a long term business. SDSI development programme is based on three important principles which is the development of high quality craft products which contain local identity/wisdom produced for the global market. They are; the development of independent, creative as well as innovative culture, and the development of human resource in the field of entrepreneurship and skill.
Areas hereditarily engaged in the production of craft production of craft products are the target groups and they have to be developed as centres for craft production. Any village/area to be given the opportunity to participate in the programme must have the following criteria:

-Active in Craft Production : village/mukim/districts identified as activity centres for any crafts of heritage and must have many entrepreneurs actively engaged in similar types of crafts;

-Supply of Raw Materials : village/mukim/districts must be prepared to participate in development programmes jointly planned to develop the community;

-Infrastructure Facilities : creating infrastructural facilities which can be developed further to support the areas in becoming tourist destinations and to create Common Facility Centres specifically for the local craft community in sharing basic technical facilities, showcasing of products and acting as information centres for project administration and management. Apart from that entrepreneurs, as individuals must be prepared to further develop production facilities for the entrepreneurs to create a safe and conducive working environment.

The programme aims to enhance the marketing of local handicraft and popular delicacies from each state in Malaysia. It will continue to enhance various strategies in increasing the competitive advantage of local crafts in international markets.

Customers including foreign tourists are looking for contemporary designed batik, kebayas and sarongs with matching accessories.

The expo which attracted many foreign tourists, also featured handicraft from several other countries. Some entrepreneurs from Indonesia, for example, promoted the technique of "batik-djanting" on the surface of wooden products such as trays, pots, picture frames, bowls and decorative or ceremonial masks.

SDSI with the cooperation of Kraftangan Malaysia, this effort emphasizing on producing local crafts with Malaysian identity. Apart from it, it also ensures that the products are of high quality, originality and uniqueness.

The craft industry caters mainly to the domestic market, it is also beefs up its promotional efforts in order to encourage more individuals and those from the corporate sector to buy and use local crafts.

Shopping is a wow! A must do thing while you are in
Craft Cultural Complex Kuala Lumpur.

Local silver fashioned into beautiful jewelery and intricate adornments such as brooches, bracelets, pendants, necklaces and earrings. You can also get silver tableware including beautifully crafted tea-sets, tray and bowls.

Various activities were organised in conjunction with the celebrations. It consisted of Craft Entrepreneur Bazaar, New Product Exhibition, Craft Technology and Innovation Exhibition and Foreign Craft Agencies Exhibition, among others, showcased a rich variety of handcrafted products ranging from decorative items made from shells to traditional fabrics. Among the products on display were rattan lampshades of various designs, rattan baskets, metal and ceramic pots, decorative glass pieces, beaded trinkets, brooches, songket pumps and matching purses, sarongs in intricate songket and batik designs as well as furniture made of wood and rattan.

There were also interactive and live demonstration such as the making of various woven fabric, ceramic surface decorations and marbling techniques. Several skilled craftmen demonstrated how they weaved mats from "mengkuang" leaves or dyed coconut husks, while a group of Orang Asli displayed their excellent skills in wood-carving. Other activities organised during the event include cultural performances and traditional games as well as a convention on National Craft Innovation.
These aunties used to weave mats and baskets of all sorts out of 'mengkuang' leaves.

Hand weaving into a various types of baskets, it's a wonderful and colourful hand made.

Pottery and ceramic, crafted pieces that come mainly from the states of Sarawak and Perak. Sarawak pottery is easily distinguished by their unmistakable ethnic markings and come in a range of vases from big to small. Those from the village of Sayong in Perak, usually black in colour, were originally used as water containers. A drink of water from the "labu", or jar in Malay, is cool and refreshing.

Batik, a versatile fabric featuring hand-painted or block motifs available in traditional and contemporary designs. You can choose from the beautiful range of sarongs, shirts, dresses and scarves as well as cushion covers, tablecloth, napkins and place mats.
Besides printing batik motifs on cloth, the craftmen apply the batik-djanting techique on wooden souvenirs, interior accessories and furniture. Here, a tool called "djanting" is used as a pen, delivering hot liquid wax on the wooden surface. A unique pattern will stay permanently on the surface after the wooden piece is dipped into the dye during the colouring process.

So many types of people went for shopping here. From locals; Malay, Chinese, and Indians to foreign tourists, they were looking for so many things here as a gift of leisure. We live in a peaceful multiracial country of Malaysia, so this is the uniqueness of having a multicultural from a various races.

As I walked through the event, there were a lot of foreign tourists do some shopping heavenly.

One of the craft product working committee in the implementation of One District One Industry (SDSI) programme doing the survey as the promotion and marketing strategy of the event.

Kids were enjoying the event with their family. Every school holiday is a fun and exciting for them to join the One District One Industry event. It is good for parents to take this chance to expose their kids to learn the magnificence of multicultural nature in our country. They will learn and understand the different emotions and attitudes evoked by diversity. Ultimately, this will serve them the purpose for many who decide to learn about the fundamentals of cultural diversity.

The SDSI programme is not complete without a cultural performances. Rich in diversity, culture has intrinsic value for development as well as social cohesion and peace. Below, arts and culture are part of the city's scene! The group were performing a traditional performance called "dikir barat"-that involves singing in groups in a unique traditional manner. Our government today actively promotes it as an important part of the Malaysian national culture.

The performance were attended by large and enthusiastic crowds. Locals and foreign tourists enjoyed watching the traditional performance here and obviously this moment could be one of the unforgettable experiences for them to bring back home.

I believe that this SDSI programme would be one of the premier family and parenting destination with kids' craft, holiday fun and activities. You won't get this peaceful and harmonious events in a multiracial country like Malaysia in other region around the world!

A big clap for them!

As we know, 1Malaysia has emphasized a peaceful living in a cultural diversity in Malaysia. It is thus an asset that is indispensable for poverty reduction and the achievement of sustainable development. At the same time, acceptance and recognition of cultural diversity are conducive to dialogue among civilizations and cultures, respect and mutual understanding. Besides, 1Malaysia is the logical extension of the philosophy based on mutual trust and respect between all communities. It was the right formula not only for national harmony but also for enhancing regional and global peace. Truly, for Malaysians, inter-cultural dialogue is an everyday fact of life. In other words, 1Malaysia is a concept to foster unity in Malaysia of all races based on several important values which should become the practice of every Malaysian. In fact, 1Malaysia values and respect ethnic identities of every community in Malaysia and regards them as assets to be proud of.

'Satu Kampung, Satu Industri'. Bersemangat juga bila mendengarnya!

Tapi jenis industri yg dibabitkan perlu diteliti.

Contohnya Kg Pandan yang hebat dengan industri dadahnya!
